Challenge Coin Nation Custom Challenge Coins

A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion with an insignia or emblem from an organization and was initially used by the military as a way for servicemen and women to prove membership in a branch or unit of the military when challenged. They were also used to recognize service members and supporters or celebrate events that had significant meaning. They are also used by law enforcement personnel for many of the same reasons. Unit commanders or leaders presented challenge coins in recognition of exceptional achievement by a member of the unit. They could also be given out to recognize visits by special guests or commemorate significant events. The use of challenge coins has grown and are now used by all kinds of different organizations, groups, companies, and others to commemorate and celebrate significant events or achievements of members.

Challenge coins can be made in various sizes, shapes, and many different materials. Common designs popular today can also include cultural and entertainment references like superheroes and characters. Challenge coins are now commonly used by anyone looking for a unique and personalized way to acknowledge and strengthen bonds between the people that give and receive them. They have also become collectibles, with the older or more rare coins becoming valuable to collectors.

How to give a challenge coin

You don't have to be in the military to use challenge coins, but you should learn the rules of giving challenge coins. There's a certain historical etiquette you should abide by when using challenge coins. Whether you're giving someone a coin or initiating a coin check, these are some of the traditional military challenge coin rules.

Coin Checks
Traditionally, when a service member or veteran initiates a coin check, they're looking to connect with other veterans and military members. When someone yells out that they're starting a coin check, they will often loudly slam their coin on a hard surface. Everyone who owns a coin shows it during coin checks sou always carry your coin with you.

Challenge With Caution
If you're thinking about starting a coin challenge the next time you're at the bar, make sure you understand there are some consequences. The most important being that you will be buying a round of drinks for everyone who's challenged and pulls out a coin!

Don't Hand Over Coins
If you put your coin in someone else's hand during a challenge, it means you're giving it to them. Instead, showcase the coin on a table, in your hand, or hold it up. Anyone who wants to take a closer look is then obligated to give it back.

Many groups outside the military now use challenge coins

Challenge coins can be a great way to honor someone for a good deed or their hard work. There's no more memorable reward than a challenge coin. You don't have to be a veteran or a member of the armed forces to use custom challenge coins. Challenge coins are used by firefighters, police, businesses, trade unions, fraternal organizations, and many others. Some even use them as business cards; they are unique and much less likely to be thrown out. Challenge coins can also be sold to raise money for a charity or other cause.

Many people now use custom challenge coins in the business world to reward employees after the completion of a project or if a significant goal was met. When you reward an employee with a customized challenge coin, they will always have something to commemorate that day or accomplishment.
